Edwin Davis
Edwin Davis is a healthcare professional residing in the Hampton Roads area with his wife and three children. Edwin was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. Although he did not grow up in agriculture, he identifies many similarities between healthcare and agriculture. He graduated in 2000 from Marshall University, with a B.A. in Sports Marketing/Management and also completed a M.S. in Training and Development at Marshall University. His journey into agriculture began when his family grew their front yard from one to fourteen raised garden beds. While we intended to take a more proactive role in our food, we inadvertently grew our community! Our cul-de-sac grew from one garden to multiple gardens and our community began to share produce, recipes, and more. Upon seeing the tangible and intangible benefits of agricultural participation, we decided to take a more intentional and comprehensive approach to agriculture. I enrolled in the Urban Agriculture Program at Virginia State University and was amazed at the depth and scope of the agricultural industry. Some areas that piqued my interest include micro-farming, niche agricultural opportunities, policy, and regenerative and sustainable practices. While the program introduced me to many additional aspects of agriculture, I knew I had more to give. As I found out more about VALOR, I knew that it was a program that I wanted to be a part of.
"I’m honored and excited that I was selected to be a part of the Class VII cohort for VALOR. I’m passionate about the agriculture industry and I look forward to developing my leadership abilities and contributing within the many different spaces of agriculture. I’m certain that the critical thinking skills combined with regional and global perspectives will create a new appreciation for the unique goals and challenges that face the Ag industry. Congratulations to each of my Class VII classmates. I look forward to our journey together and having a positive impact."
